Russia expels Ukrainian troops from the Luhansk and Donetsk regions of Donbas, where Moscow-backed separatists have fought against Kieu since Russia's first military intervention in Ukraine in 2014. I have focused on that.
The Ministry of Defense said its troops occupied the village around Lysychans'k and surrounded the area and are currently fighting Ukrainian troops in the town.
"Russian troops and troops in the People's Republic of Luhansk have completely defeated the besieged enemies and are fighting within Lysychans'k," the ministry said in a statement.
Calls to the Ukrainian General Staff and the Ministry of Defense were unanswered. The ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comments sent by email.
The Russian Ministry of Defense added that it attacked the military infrastructure of the city of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine and a base used by foreign fighters on the outskirts of Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine. (Report by Reuters)
