Hanoi, Vietnam (AP) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Vietnam on Wednesday. He openly condemned the invasion of Ukraine.

On his way to Bali, Indonesia for the G20 meeting, Lavrov sought to strengthen his ties with Vietnam, which has a strong relationship with the United States.

Lavrov is currently traveling to Asia to seek assistance in leveled sanctions against Western diplomatic isolation and invasion of Ukraine. He was visiting Mongolia the day before arriving in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. He also maintains a relationship with Moscow in Mongolia, but his relationship with Washington is growing rapidly. The

visit comes 10 years after the two countries have expanded their relationship to a strategic partnership.

The Soviet Union was a close supporter of Hanoi's Communist government against South capitalists and their Americans and other western allies during the Vietnam War.

Lavrov will leave Vietnam on Wednesday afternoon and travel to Indonesia to attend a foreign ministers' meeting from a group of 20 major wealthy and developing countries.
