Woman rushed to hospital for smoke inhalation in Saskatoon house fire

A woman was taken to a Saskatoon hospital after ahouse fire on the 200 block of Elm Street on Sunday night.

The Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) said it had received reports of an alarm going off on a neighbor's property. It was unclear if anyone was home.

Fire Department also didn't know if it was a carbon monoxide or smoke alarm ringing, but answered the call as a smoke alarm just to make sure it had enough resources if needed.

Three fire engines, one rescue team, one ladder truck, and battalion commander responded.

The first crew to arrive saw no sign of fire from the street. The crew saw smoke inside the house and decided that the door of the house had to be broken down.

Once inside, firefighters were confronted with thick smoke conditions.

A small fire was found at the top of the stairs to the basement. It disappeared quickly.

The woman was found in her bedroom and taken away by firefighters. She was taken to hospital by ambulance.

SFD did not know the patient's current status.

Fire investigation The officer will be $1,000 on the floor of the structure.

A neighbor's prompt call to the fire department at the start helped minimize property damage.
