Several people fell for rental scam in Waterloo's University District, police say

Waterloo Local Police say several people reported being victims of rental fraud in the university district earlier this month.

On Aug. 6, he was contacted by several people who responded to an online ad offering to sublet an apartment on Aug. 7, according to police.

Police say the victim met the scammer in person before paying the rent for the apartment.

Police are also urging caution with anyone requesting an electronic or international wire transfer.
