But there are all-time greats, and others are on the list. It has influenced sports, society, and sometimes both. It may sound cliche, but some things make the world a better place.
Bill Russell and Vinscully are two of them.
From different games, in different ways, with their own set of skills and sensibilities, they changed the way people thought about the sport and all that they left behind.
There have been many great baseball announcers over the years. There was only one Vin Scully. He didn't broadcast baseball so much as he delivered an unscripted Shakespeare speech every night at the ballpark all summer long. he spoke his own soliloquy. he stated the facts. The noise from the crowd was often his color man in the booth. he was lyrical. Years ago someone said that if they could hear Vin Scully read out of his phone book, they would be intrigued and no one would represent the team and time quite like Scully .
He died at his ninety-fourth year. Many summer soundtracks have been lost.
Bill Russell wasn't just about wins and championships. He's a historical figure, the NBA's first black head, he's a coach, he's the biggest winner in league history, he's one of the greatest players, and by today's definition, especially around Toronto. I had a mark that seemed almost impossible.

Argos should follow O'Shea
