Six seek vacant seat on Gatineau city council

A byelection is being held in Parc-de-la-Montagne-Saint-Raymond ward.

Six candidates have filed nominations for the byelection for a vacant seat on Gatineau city council.

The city announced that the list of candidates in Parc-de-la-Montagne-Saint-Raymond ward included Anne-Marie Roy of the Action Gatineau municipal political party and independents Rémi Bergeron, Marc Bureau, Jérémie Carrier, Jacques G. Lavoie and Mathieu Paquette.

Bureau is a former mayor of the West Quebec city.

The deadline for nominations was Friday afternoon.

The vacancy in the ward followed the death of Coun. Louise Boudrias in August. She had taken leave from political duties in January because she was receiving treatment for cancer.

Voting for the byelection is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will also be advancing voting on Sunday, Oct. 16, from 12 noon to 8 p.m.
