Some of Ottawa’s LRT trains were travelling “slightly” slower than normal on certain sections of the Confederation line Tuesday morning.
Due to snow accumulation, the system that warns rail operators about possible “intrusions” on the tracks near LRT stations was picking up false readings, according to Troy Charter, the city’s director of transit operations.

When that system is deactivated, trains have to travel slower so that operators have enough time to spot and react to any potential obstructions and stop safely, Charter said.
“Additionally, under certain track conditions, we may adjust the train’s brake and acceleration rates to be more gradual when approaching a station,” he said.
“These routine operational adjustments ensure safe operations of the train and result in minimal to no impact to customers’ trip times.”
