Historical Bibliothèque St-Sulpiceon St-Denis St. South of Ontario St. Is converted to Maison de la chanson et delamusique du Québec, run byBibliothèque et Archives Nationales du Québec, celebrating Quebec music.

The 100-year-old building, which has failed several renovations over the years, will undergo a major renovation as part of a $ 50 million project. Said Prime Minister Francois Legoy on Thursday.

The state and city are contributing funding, and BAnQ is transferring land to Hydro-Québec to start the project. Completed in 2026, the building will have an annual budget of $ 7 million. The announcement was made in front of several prominent Quebec singers, including Gilles Vigneault, who was considered one of Quebec's songwriting giants at the age of 93 and wrote songs for Mon Pays and Gens du Pays.

All speeches celebrating Quebec music mentioned only French singers and composers, but his version of Quebec culture was contributed by people who expressed themselves in other languages. Lego told reporters after announcing that it was also included.

"Quebec's culture is unique and one of the reasons it is unique is for the French. But Leonard Cohen is part of our culture. Absolutely. I. Loves him, "said Lego.

He added that despite the policy that the organizers of the Montreal Fete National Concertdo not allow English, the idea is okay.

"In Montreal, they may decide to focus only on French songs, but I don't disagree (English songs)," Lego said. "But Quebec has an official language, which is French, so it's important that most of these shows are in French."
