MONTGOMERY, AL (AP) — Beer and wine sales at the University of Alabama's Bryant Denny Stadium.

Dean Argo, spokesman for the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission, said Wednesday that authorities have approved liquor licenses for vendors at Bryant Denny Stadium. State approval was the final regulatory step to authorize sales.

A spokeswoman for the university's athletic department did not immediately return an email requesting comment on when sales would begin.

On Tuesday, the Tuscaloosa City Council has approved an alcohol sales license for Levy Premium Foodservice, the university's concession stand at the stadium, the news agency reported. Levy representative Herbert Tesch told city councilors that beer and wine will be sold to fans in the concourse, but not in the stands, the news outlet reported.

Colleges are looking to join the growing number of colleges selling alcohol in stadiums on game days. Previously, alcohol was only allowed in the Tuscaloosa Stadium Skybox.

The 100,077-capacity stadium is he one of the largest football stadiums in the United States.
