A homicide investigation was underway early Tuesday after a man was fatally stabbed at an apartment on Saratoga Place in the south end overnight, the Ottawa Police Service said.

Saratoga Place is off Bridle Path Drive and south of Hunt Club Road.
The man died of his injuries and was pronounced dead in hospital, police said, while the injured woman, who is in her 50s, remains in hospital in stable condition.
Police identified the victim as 45-year-old James Samson and issued an arrest warrant Tuesday afternoon for Joshua Brennan, who has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.
Police said Tuesday evening that Brennan, 37, had been arrested in Ottawa and was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
Several residents who live in the apartment building said they saw multiple police cars and a paramedic vehicle in the parking lot in front around 1:30 a.m Tuesday morning when police say they responded to the stabbing there.
Half a dozen residents interviewed all said the building was quiet and they were unnerved by the homicide.
Kevin Barker said he woke up due to the flashing lights of the emergency responders but didn’t see anything else.
“I watched a little sports and went back to bed.”
He’s lived in the building for six years.
“It’s a great area, I love it,” said Barker. The building as well managed, he said, and he’s never encountered any problems.
“Whenever you have a bunch of people living together, you might have something going on among the neighbours or whatever. I can’t afford a house, though.”
Rebecca Nadelle, who has lived in the building for two years, said she saw the flashing lights of police cars out her window because she happened to be up late with her young daughter.
She was shocked to learn Tuesday morning that a man had been stabbed to death.
“My neighbours are fantastic. It’s a very quiet building,” she said.
“I really enjoy this apartment and this community. I hope it doesn’t start going downhill. But there are some bad apples everywhere.”
Nadelle said it’s hard to comprehend that someone was killed in the building.
“It’s scary. Everyone should feel safe in their home, whether they are paying $200 in subsidized rent or $2,000 for a condo.”

On Sunday, police said that officers were investigating reported gunfire on Saratoga Place Saturday night. No one was found with injuries when officers were called to shots fired at about 10:30 p.m.
