York Regional Police say the victim was walking through an alleyway from McCowan Rd. towards Woodhall Rd. – just north of Steeles Ave. E. – between 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. when an unknown man grabbed her and “forcefully dragged her between two houses.”
“Officers learned that motion-sensor lights went off between the two homes and a person was walking a dog in the area, which may have scared the suspect away,” Const. Maniva Armstrong said in a statement released Friday.
“Police continue to search for the potential witness who was walking a dog in the area of the alley and Woodhall Rd.,” she said.
Investigators have released an image and video from nearby security cameras of a suspect and are asking anyone who can identify him to come forward.
“The suspect is urged to contact legal counsel and turn himself in,” Armstrong said.
The suspect is described as 5-foot-10, with a medium build. He was wearing a dark-coloured coat, hat, gloves, boots and light-coloured pants at the time.
“Investigators are seeking any video surveillance from the area or anyone that may have captured dashcam video on the roadways,” Armstrong said, adding the investigation is “ongoing.”
Anyone with information regarding the suspect’s identity or whereabouts is urged to call investigators at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7071, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
