Budapest — Australia's Mollie O'Callaghan won the Women's 100m Freestyle Gold Medal at the FINA World Championships on Thursday against the backdrop of a spectacular second split.

O'Callahan was third in the final 50, but jumped to the top in the last few meters, defeating Sweden's favorite and world record holder Sarah Sjoström, who won the silver medal, and Torihasuke of the United States. Was in 3rd place.

The Australian won the gold medal in 52.67 seconds, 0.13 seconds ahead of Sjoström, but Hasuke was only 1/4 second behind.

"I'm so excited, I really don't know what to say. I didn't expect it at all. I'm great here I'm racing with a girl, "said O'Callahan after winning her first personal gold at the World Championships.

O'Callahan set her fastest time in the semi-finals and scored a spot in Lane 4. She wasn't upset in the final stretch on both sides of the 100m butterfly champions Sjoström and Haske. The

field withdrew from the championship after defending champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Manuel failed and O'Callahan's compatriot Simone Jack broke his hand during a training session. It was opened wide by what I did. (Report by Rohith Nair in Bangalore, edited by Toby Davis)
