American artistic swimmer Anita Alvarez was at risk of drowning before being rescued by coach Andrea Fuentes after losing consciousness in the pool at the World Championships in Budapest on Wednesday. ..
Spanish Olympic medalist Fentes, a four-time Olympic medalist in synchronized swimming, jumped into the pool after seeing Alvarez sink to the bottom at the end of the final solo-free routine.
She was treated by her pool before being taken away on her stretcher.
It was the second time Fuentes rescued Alvarez after he jumped into the pool at last year's Olympic qualifying event and secured her safety with American swimming partner Lindi Schroeder.
