There will be about 200,000 conflicts in 2021, up from 170,000 in 2020, but about Well below 250,000 crashes.

Nearly 36,000 injured in car crash on Lower River or diedmainland in 2021, according to the latest statisticsreleased by ICBC.

This is more than in 2020, when the pandemic closed stores and shut down offices, but his three years before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. This is well below the average of 47,000 accidents that occurred in injury or death.

"The decision of many people in British Columbia to stay closer to home and refrain from driving in the early stages of the pandemic led to a decline in motor vehicle crashes in 2020-21. It's possible," said media relations adviser Greg Harper. For ICBC, stated in an email response to the question.

"Since then, the number of reported crashes and complaints has returned to pre-pandemic levels," he added.

ICBC consistently reports speed, distracted driving, and drunk driving as the top three contributing factors to crashes.

There will be about 200,000 collisions in 2021, up from 170,000 in 2020, but an increase of about 250,000 each year in the three years to 2020. Much less than a crash.

This makes intersections much safer.

For example, in his three years before the pandemic hit Vancouver, 20 locations had more than 100 accidents per year. Since 2020, there are only five. In Surrey he saw a similar decline in 2020, although last year he had more than a dozen locations where he had more than 100 clashes.

His two intersections along Boundary Road have consistently ranked among the top three locations for car crashes in Vancouver for the past five years. Boundary Road and Kingsway with 108 collisions.

In the Lower Mainland, an average of 99 people were killed by vehicles annually from 2016 to his 2020. That number dropped to 80 in 2020 at the peak of pandemic restrictions in the state. ICBC has not released data on his road fatalities beyond 2021.

Approximately 22% of all car accidents between 2017 and 2021 will result in injury or death.

This is a much lower rate than collisions involving pedestrians. In such cases, 90% of collisions result in injury or death on average. In 2021, there will be 900 vehicle crashes in the Lower Mainlands that will injure or kill pedestrians. That's less than half of his five-year peak of 2,1000 pedestrians injured or killed in motor vehicles in 2018.

Raheem Dilgir, president of the road safety consultancy TranSafe, said last year that by encouraging as many people as possible to use transport Said it would improve safety.

"Buses are by far the safest mode of transportation," he said.
