DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers will replace general manager Al Avila on Wednesday. Fired and terminated. A seven-year tenure without a playoff appearance.
Owner Chris Ilitch has announced that his team has once again suffered a disappointing season. Detroit went 43-68 Wednesday and he was AL Central at the end.
"We want to regain momentum and make progress towards building a winning team. We want to find talented executives to help us do that." Host Cleveland.
Ilitch invested millions of dollars in the offseason to get his team back in contention. Assistant His general manager Sam Mengjin will take over day-to-day leadership roles.
Avila was promoted to General Manager on August 4, 2015 after serving as an assistant to Dave Dombrowski.
When Avila was his GM, the Tigers had only won one season (2016).
