Toronto summit keys in on ‘increased action’ to tackle auto thefts

The Peel Police Services Board and Peel Regional Police will be holding a summit to tackle the problem of auto thefts and carjackings.

Board Chair Ron Chatha and Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah have announced that they will host a summit on the issue on March 10 at the Toronto Airport Marriott, and it will be livestreamed.

Mayors, Regional Chairs, Police Services Board Chairs and Police Chiefs in Toronto, York, Durham, Halton, Hamilton, Ottawa and Niagara have been invited to the summit, as are members of the OPP, and the Canadian Borders Services Agency.

The summit will work on actions to reduce auto thefts and carjackings.

“As a board, we have been advocating for increased action to address car thefts and carjackings,” said Chatha.

“Having been recently re-elected Chair of the Board, I want to ensure our community knows this issue is our top priority. We will continue to work with our partners as this problem transcends borders and requires a multi-jurisdictional solution.”
