KHARKIV — A total of 17 people were killed and 42 wounded in two Russian attacks on Kharkiv, a major city in northeastern Ukraine, the regional governor said Thursday.
A pre-dawn rocket attack on Thursday killed three civilians and injured 17, according to local emergency services. It followed the Russian attack on Kharkov on Wednesday, and ambulance services initially said 12 people were killed. He said a body had been found.
"Now in Kharkov he has 17 dead and 42 wounded," he wrote in a telegram, describing the attack as an "act of terror."
Synehubov also said two people were killed in a rocket attack on the town of Krasnograd in the Kharkiv region on Thursday.
President Volodymyr Zelensky described Wednesday's attack on Ukraine's second-largest city, Kharkov, as an "unjustified and cynical attack on civilians."
"We cannot forgive, we will avenge it," he said.
Russia denies intentionally targeting civilians in what it calls a "special military operation" in Ukraine.
Kharkiv resident Tamara Kramarenko said her dormitory where she lived was hit by a missile on Wednesday.
