Prime Minister Trudeau visited a small archipelago in the Gulf of St. Lawrence for the first time in 20 years, according to Prime Minister Trudeau's office.

In French he is known as Les Iles-de-la-Madeleine, the islands, although geographically near maritime, are part of the province of Quebec.
Of the 12,000 residents, all but a few are native speakers of French, and over 75% speak only French.
With large white sand beaches and a warmer climate than the mainland, the economies of the islands are heavily dependent on tourism.
