Minnesota Twins outfielder and first baseman Alex Kirillov will undergo radical season-ending surgery on his right wrist on Tuesday, the team announced Sunday.

It is his second year in a row that Kirillov's season ended early due to wrist surgery.

Kirilloff will have surgery to shorten his ulna and increase wrist space.

Before Sunday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays, Twins manager Rocco Baldelli told reporters, "Whenever we're talking about chipping or shortening bones, "But getting it done now gives me the opportunity to use the offseason to get in shape, start swinging the bat again, feel better, and start preparing for next year."

Kirillov underwent surgery in July 2021 and has been on the injured list twice this season with wrist problems.

In May, he told reporters that this type of surgery would require breaking and shortening his ulna. He said that metal plates and screws would be inserted to hold it together. Neither do doctors unless they think AK is absolutely necessary," Baldelli said.

Kirillov, 24, batted .250 with three homers and 21 RBIs in 45 games. A year ago, in his first season in the majors, in 59 games he batted . 251 with eight home runs and his 34 RBIs.

Kirillhu was drafted by the Twins in his first round in 2016.
