Toronto police have made an arrest made for a pair of retail robberies.
On Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023, police were called to a robbery in the Lawrence Ave., E. and Kennedy Rd. area. where a man had entered a store and approached the checkout counter and began arguing with an employee about making a purchase.

The suspect then went behind the counter and shoved the employee out of the way and then took a quantity o cigarettes and fled on foot.
Police were able to determine the man’s identity and obtain a warrant for his arrest.
On Thursday police responded to an unknown trouble call in the Merrian Rd. and Kennedy Rd. area where a man went to the check out counter of a store and asked to buy a pack of cigarettes.
He allegedly grabbed the cigarettes and walked away and placed his hand on his pocket to indicate he had a gun.
The employee followed the man who allegedly attacked him.
Police responded to the area where they located the man who refused to surrender himself and began to fight the officers.
Police were able to able to subdue the man and take him into custody.
Anthony Ghanavati, 25, of Toronto, was charged with two counts of robbery, assault, assault peace officer, and possession property obtained by crime.
