Amsterdam, The Netherlands (AP) — A year ago in the Netherlands Two suspects who killed criminal reporter Peter R. de Fries were arrested abroad, after the "supervisor" of the shocking murder suspect announced Tuesday by a Dutch prosecutor was detained.

The public prosecutor's office said a 27-year-old man was arrested Monday in Curacao's former Dutch Caribbean colony and a 26-year-old man was detained in Spain. Same day. Both men are Dutch citizens who are sent to the Netherlands to face justice.

The two were detained as part of an investigation into one or more people who ordered the killing of DeVries, who was shot dead at close range on a busy street in Amsterdam last July 6. The campaign journalist died nine days later at the age of 64.

Prosecutors did not reveal details of the new suspect's identity or their alleged role in the killing.

On Monday, prosecutors announced that they had arrested a 27-year-old Polish man suspected of organizing a hit.

Two other suspects, Gunman and the fleeing driver, were tried in Amsterdam for murder. The judge will make a verdict on July 14. The prosecutor asked both men for life imprisonment.

De Vries has made a name for himself as a criminal journalist. Later in his career, he conducted a tireless campaign to resolve the cold case. Prior to his shooting, De Vries was confident that he was an advisor to witnesses to the trials of leaders and other members of the criminal gang, allegedly described by police as "oiled murder machines." .. Both the witness brother and his lawyer were killed.

Last month, the prosecutor asked the judge to convict Gangland suspect Reduan Tagi for multiple murders and sentence him to life imprisonment. His verdict in court is expected next year. Taghi has not been charged with the murder of DeVries.
