Two suspects charged in connection with double homicide in Longueuil

The two LaSalle residents were charged in connection with the deaths of Sophie Langelier, a mother of two who worked as a CHSLD orderly, and her boyfriend Kadar Ahmed, a father of four young children.

Tatiana Isabel Sanchez was charged on Oct. 5, 2022, with the second-degree murder of Kadar Ahmed. She was also charged with being an accessory after the fact to Ahmed's murder as well as the murder of Sophie Langelier.

Two young LaSalle residents, including a woman already well known to police despite her age, were charged Wednesday in connection with a shooting that left a couple dead in Longueuil two weeks ago.

Chistopher Campagnolo, 19, made a brief appearance before a Quebec Court judge at the Longueuil courthouse, where he was charged with second-degree murder in the deaths of Sophie Langelier, a 42-year-old mother of two who worked as an orderly at a CHSLD, and her 34-year-old boyfriend Kadar Ahmed, a father of four young children. The couple were shot on Sept. 23 in Longueuil.

The second suspect charged through a video conference at the Longueuil courthouse was Tatiana Isabel Sanchez, a 22-year-old woman who was convicted in 2019 of several charges in a case heard at the Montreal courthouse that involved the pimping of a minor.

Sanchez was charged Wednesday with the second-degree murder of Ahmed. She was also charged with being an accomplice after the fact to both homicides.

While Campagnolo has no criminal record, Sanchez has already been charged with crimes in several cases, including at least one that was pending when she was arrested.

The pair were arrested early Wednesday morning following an investigation by the Longueuil police and the Sûreté du Québec.

The charges were not read into the court record, and a defence lawyer representing both of the accused agreed that the case be carried over to Nov. 18.

On Sept. 23, Langelier and Ahmed were gunned down at 8:15 p.m. in a parking lot on Lyon St., near the intersection of Darveau St., in what the Longueuil police describe as a possible drive-by shooting.

Langelier, a resident of St-Hubert, was an orderly who had worked at the CHSLD René-Lévesque in Longueuil for eight or nine years before she was killed. On Wednesday, her friends said she and Ahmed had been a couple for about six months.

Jacinthe Forest, a co-worker of Langelier at the CHSLD, said she was on vacation in Alberta when she learned her friend had been fatally shot.

“Sophie was like a ray of sunlight,” Forest said. “She worked very hard and was devoted. She was a very good mother and very attached to her (two) children. She was a very good orderly — everyone loved her. We can’t understand what happened.”

Ahmed had a criminal record and was recently charged at the Longueuil courthouse with four counts of assault. He was scheduled to make his first court appearance on the charges on Wednesday.

He was on probation when he was killed. Last year, Ahmed pleaded guilty at the Montreal courthouse to assault and uttering threats. He was sentenced to time served, the equivalent of 105 days in jail, and three years of probation.
