Metro Vancouver police agencies rescued one of two women who had been assaulted, robbed and forcibly confined in a U-Haul van on Wednesday.

Delta police were called to Highway 17 and Ladner Trunk Road just before noon Wednesday about a distraught woman. Officers learned the 21-year-old had escaped the van nearby after she’d been forced into the vehicle by two other people.

She told police there was another woman in the van, and Delta police notified police in surrounding jurisdictions to be on the watch for it. Investigators learned early on that all the people involved knew each other.

The second victim was later found unharmed in the Aldergrove area by Langley RCMP and two other people in the van were arrested.

Police are recommending charges of forcible confinement and assault against those two suspects. Since the pair have not had a court appearance, their identities are not being released yet.

Delta police said Langley RCMP, the Lower Mainland integrated emergency response team and Air 1 helicopter were key to finding the second victim and the arrests.
