University of Michigan Adds Third Intake of Nursing Program to Support Manitoba Deficiency

The University of Manitoba plans to start producing 50% more nurses next year.

Dean of College of Nursing, Dr. Netha Dyck, said at The Start of 680 CJOB that the program had her third enrolment. It said it plans to add more and has no doubt it will fill these classes. This fall program had her 447 applicants, compared to her 280 in 2019.

"We play a contributing role in addressing the nursing vault problem," she said. “The first additional admission will be in May 2023. We will enroll 120 students in September, another 120 students in January, and a third additional admission of 120 students in May.

Most of these graduates, Dyck said, are expected to stay in states that have suffered from shortages of health workers in recent years.
