Kyiv — Ukraine carried out long-range strikes overnight against Russian military bases and two key bridges across the Dnipro River, Ukrainian officials said on Monday.
According to Natalia Khmenek, spokesman for the Southern Command of Ukraine, the attack is in pockets of Russian-occupied southern Ukraine territory on the west bank of the mighty Dnipro River.
"The results [of the attack] were pretty respectable, hitting the Antonivsky and Kakhovsky bridges," she said on television.
Her HIMARS attack on Ukraine also hit multiple military bases in the Russian-occupied southern city of Melitopol in Ukraine early in the morning, killing troops and destroying hardware. said the deposed mayor.
"Preliminary estimates indicate that a significant amount of military equipment has been destroyed," Mayor Ivan Fedorov wrote in his Telegram.
Reuters was not immediately able to confirm the officials' battlefield testimony.
The Ukrainian Defense Minister said two weeks ago that Ukraine began using her U.S.-supplied HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, which Ukraine began using in her June 2018 campaign, said she had over 50 Russian ammunition. He said the vault was destroyed.
Russia says it is conducting a "special military operation" in Ukraine to root out nationalists and protect Russian-speaking communities. Ukraine and the West describe Russia's actions as gratuitous aggression.
