"Emergency" callouts for homestay hosts in North Vancouver, Burnaby and Vancouver

According to MLI Homestay, an organization that helps international students, there are still 23 students without a place to stay.

International students will soon arrive in Metro Vancouver, but at least 23 There is still no place for them.

Her Jodi Andersen, a spokesperson for her MLI homestay, an organization that helps international students, said North her in need of homes for nine students. It said there was an "urgent need" for the Vancouver host.

There are also calls for homestay her hosts in Burnaby and Vancouver, with a total of 14 houses to be found.

While the shortage of hosts is unusual, Andersen said many families may not be aware that students are coming because the program was canceled during the pandemic.

"I feel like this is still catching up with COVID-19," Andersen said.

"International students are ready and enthusiastic to travel and experience homestay and high school in Canada following all that is required to arrive safely in Canada and arrive at their homestay destination.

We have students who have arrived from Germany, Brazil, Spain, Japan, Mexico, the Czech Republic, Italy and Slovakia and have not yet found a host family.

"We are asking these communities to consider this exciting opportunity to open their homes to international students," said Andersen.

Students study year-round from the end of August, he arrives in early September, until December, January, or she until June. 

Andersen said he is looking for hosts within school districts where mainly international students study.

North He will attend Argyle Secondary, Carson Graham Secondary, Handsworth Secondary, Seikove Secondary and Sutherland Secondary in Vancouver. 

Burnaby's high schools include Alpha Secondary, Burnaby South, Caribou Hills and Moscrop Secondary.

Vancouver needs hosts near Eric Humber, Kitsilano Secondary, Point He Gray Secondary, Prince of Wales Secondary and Sir Charles Tupper Secondary.

MLI Homestay says it has added COVID-19 safety protocols to ensure students arrive safely at their hosts.
