Air Dry, Alta. — Urgent care centers in the northern city of Calgary will return to normal operations this weekend.
The Airdrie, Alberta, facility will be closed from 22 July to mid-September due to a shortage of doctors covering shifts on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. It was supposed to be closed.
Alberta Health Services said in a news release it will reopen on Friday.
Four new doctors have been recruited and will begin working at the center in the coming weeks, Dr. Charles Wong, the Calgary-area emergency care officer, said in a statement.
In addition, he said the $1 million in funding would also add staffing and care spaces to improve emergency medical services in Airdrie, home to about 80,000 residents. .
At the critical care center, from 2020 to 2021 he has seen nearly 30,000 patients from both the city and surrounding areas, including northern Calgary.
