Vancouver Street Church was destroyed by a fire on the downtown east side and was not seriously injured.

A flame broke out around 9:30 pm. On Wednesday, the two-story building on 100 blocks of East Hastings Street quickly spread to the adjacent two-story building that houses the Vancouver Street Church.

Vancouver — Two buildings on the downtown east side of Vancouver A fire broke out. It was an important gathering place for the hungry and homeless people in the area.

The flame broke out around 9:30 pm. On Wednesday, the two-story building on 100 blocks of East Hastings Street quickly spread to the adjacent two-story building that houses the Vancouver Street Church.

No serious injuries have been reported, but Street Church has been providing food and assistance in the neighborhood for almost 30 years.

Fire officials say two buildings were destroyed, but they were able to prevent the flames from spreading to the seven-story Maple Hotel, which is adjacent to the east.

Approximately 80 residents of that low-income, room-room-style hotel had to move because of the high smoke. ..

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
