Victoria — David Eby finally of his NDP He dismissed speculation that he would hold an early election if he became prime minister when he entered the leadership race.

"It's already clear in conversations with people in British Columbia that they don't want it now.

"My colleague And I am focused on serving the people of British Columbia, not preparing for the next election.

"It is about doing things for the people we represent."

Eby, of course, was well aware of the inevitable speculation that the new prime minister would soon go to the electorate and carry out his own duties.

"I know there was talk of a snap election," Evie admitted to Stephen Quinn on an early edition of CBC. But he insisted: "I don't seem interested in holding a snap election."

Eby's final commitment in the first days of his leadership campaign. : "I have no plans for a snap election. I will work for the people of British Columbia until Election Day." It is the date stated in the law during the term of office. Eby himself passed the bill in the House of Representatives, before a four-year electoral cycle.

For now, I have to say that he will wait until his confirmed date of October 19, 2024.

A leader who does not rule out a dissolution general election hedges whether he or she will run in the next election: it opens the door to endless speculation and persistent positioning by other players. 49}

Two years ago, Prime Minister John Horgan denied considering a general election. He continued to do so almost until the day he called in September 2020. It's easy to imagine a situation where the president decides he won't wait two more years until an election.

Today, voters “want affordable housing, they want a family doctor, they want the health care system to work. We want you to be able to deal with rising prices and continue doing what we've been doing to promote BC and build our economy.{55

Casts random attacks and chronic criminals, the never-ending tragedy of drug overdoses, conflicts between governments and public sector unions, and the impact of rising interest rates.

} Eby's government will face a daunting to-do list.

Many of these challenges will not have easy solutions.

On that basis alone, Prime Minister David Evey decided to keep his personal brand fresh.

When Evie appeared ready to be proclaimed leader to a standing ovation in early October. , some observers speculated that he could hold elections in the late autumn.

The recent entry of challenger Anjali Appadurai means that the results will be announced on 3 December. It means that the leadership race will continue until

too late for this year's elections, and instead speculation has shifted to early 2023.

That scenario. Now Eby will take over the Cabinet in December, promoting newcomers from the back bench and moving current ministers to give the government a new face.

and budget, followed by a call for elections around May.

MPs are not eligible until they have served "at least six years" in Parliament.

First elected in 2017, these new Democrats will not be eligible until the summer of 2023. Their pensions are in balance.

Eby has led to speculation that he will wait until the fall of 2023.

But the determined prime minister, backed by polls, dismissed concerns about his pension and resigned in the spring. there's a possibility that.

``If you win a seat, your pension is guaranteed,'' he may say.

One of the factors that keeps Eby from being suspended is that people are telling pollsters they don't want early elections.

Polls showed people didn't want early elections when Hogan took office in his 2020.

The prime minister ignored them because he carried out the election day filled in by his own government legislation.

He has rightly gambled that once the campaign is launched, the focus will shift to whether voters want regime change in the midst of a pandemic.

They did not. Liberals and their leader, Andrew Wilkinson.

Hogan's decision to ignore a fixed election day set a precedent for the future, especially since he escaped it.

Never mind what Evie says today about his plans to reign until October 2024.

If he becomes leader, he and his advisers will look for the first opportunity to renew the mandate and lead to a change of government for the LDP. At this point in the

cycle, he seems like a strong bet that elections will take place in the spring of 2023 at the earliest.
