Ezra O’Leary weighs only 17 pounds when he died in 2019, about 7 pounds below the average for babies of his age. At the time of his death, his parents noticed that he had stopped breathing.

The convicted murderer and her husband Ryan told the detective that the child was eating a heavy vegan diet, but he was also breastfed. Prior to his death, the little Ezra hadn't eaten for a week and was suffering from sleep.

The couple were subsequently arrested and charged.

Autopsy confirmed that Ezra died of malnutrition-related complications.

But even when he was dying, Ezra's mother didn't seek medical care for the boy.

"She chose to ignore his cry," state lawyer Assistant Sarah Miller told the court. "She didn't need a scale to see his bones. She didn't need a scale to hear his cry."

In addition, the prosecutor said He said he also ignored his three children.

"We are here because the children are so hungry and the youngest are starving," Miller said.

Her husband Ryan will be tried on the same charges.
