Waterloo area announces $3.4 million funding for affordable housing projects

The Waterloo area has announced it will accept bids for affordable housing projects as it needs to allocate approximately $3.4 million.

Funding comes from the Ontario Priority Housing Initiative ($1,464,500) and taxes ($1.96 million), according to the region.

bids are available from nonprofits, cooperatives, the private sector, and local governments in creating affordable housing projects, it said.

"Access to affordable housing is one of the most pressing challenges facing the entire Waterloo region," said Regional Chair Karen Redman.

"Contributing to the Building Better Futures Plan's goal of building 2,500 affordable homes in five years We welcome suggestions to do so.”

Submissions will be accepted until 2:00 p.m.
