Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin named their child Apple; X Æ A-Xii is the offspring of Montreal singer Grimes and her less-famous partner, Elon Musk. Other inspiring celebrity baby names include Kal-El (Alice Kim and Nicolas Cage), Bear Blaze (Kate Winslet and Ned Rocknroll) and Demi Moore and Bruce Willis’s trio Rumer, Scout and Tallulah Belle. Celebrity babies and pop-culture characters often have an effect on the general population, according to the folks at Preply, an online tutoring site. Preply’s research shows the name Saint exploded by 1,800 per cent when Kim Kardashian and Kanye West chose it for their second-born (their others are North, Chicago and Psalm). We all know what Game of Thrones did for the monikers Daenerys and Cersei.

Let’s not leave out the sports world. A deep dive into Argentinian birth registries reveals the names Lionel and Lionela increased by 700 per cent in December, around the time Lionel Messi led Argentina to a World Cup win. That’s one in every 70 babies, according to Preply.

Nor shall we forget streaming services, influencers and good old-fashioned books. Kindergartens five years hence could be populated with these names, the research predicts:

Who’s expecting? Babies on the way who could be trendsetters include the progeny of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, Keke Palmer and Darius Jackson, Hilary Swank and Philip Schneider, Naomi Osaka and Cordae and Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy.

If you’re considering a unique name but fear playground repercussions, take the lead of a dear friend who forecast great things for his children: His son’s middle name is Danger. His daughter’s is Moxie.
