A woman in a wheelchair was hit by a car on the Côte d'Ries motorway in Dorval early Friday morning. According to Sûreté du Québec, she died of her injuries.
According to SQ spokesperson Alex Deselz, the victim was a 22-year-old Inuk woman from Puvinituk.
Sûreté du Québec is investigating.
The incident occurred at 4:15 a.m. Friday on a road east of Trudeau International Airport, near Marshall Her Avenue, also known as Highway 520.
The woman was taken to hospital, where she was initially in critical condition. The vehicle's driver had to undergo treatment for shock.
The western section of the highway was closed to traffic for hours to allow SQ to investigate the circumstances of the crash, but has since reopened.
According to a CTV News report, the woman was staying in Ullivik, an Inuit residential facility. Her Ullivik, which means 'a place to stay' or 'a place to rest' in Inuktitut, serves Inuk patients who have to leave their communities to receive specialized medical care in Montreal. This property is located on Rue Orly near Trudeau Airport.
