The New York Yankees reinstated newly-acquired pitcher Frankie Montas from the bereavement list on Sunday morning, paving the way for him to start in the afternoon against the St. Louis Cardinals.

He arrived in St. Louis on Saturday night after taking leave due to the death of his family.

The Yankees completed a trade of Montas and relief pitcher Ruth Turivino to his Oakland Athletics on Monday in exchange for his four prospects.

Montas, 29, went 4-9 with a 3.18 ERA in 19 games during his six seasons with the Athletics. He stole his 109 batters in his 104 2/3 innings. He finished sixth in the American League Best Young Voting last season, with a 3.37 ERA and 207 strikeouts in 32 games, giving him a 13-9 record.

After he lost 1-0 to St. Louis on Saturday night, the Yankees optioned right-hander Ron Malinacchio to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes He Burr. This is his fourth straight loss for New York.

The 27-year-old Marinaccio has made his 23 relief appearances with the Yankees this season, putting him 1-0 with a 2.03 ERA.
