The New York Yankees have activated left-handed relief player Aroldis Chapman from Friday's 15-day injured list.
Chapman has been out since May 24th due to left Achilles tendonitis. He has appeared in rehab twice in Double-A Somerset and once in Triple-A Scranton / Wilkes-Barre.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he would not force the closer role when Chapman returns.
"We choose a spot and try to take him to a spot where he can succeed," Boone said Thursday. "It can be anywhere, from high-leverage to low-leverage situations. Move him and hopefully put him in the rhythm, especially at first, being tied to anything.
Chapman, 34, has recorded 9 saves in 17 appearances and 3.86 ERA in 14 innings this season at 0-2.
Seven-time All-Star Chapman has achieved 315 saves and more than 1,000 strikeouts in his 13-year MLB career.
Also on Friday, the Yankees put right-handed Miguel Castro on his father's list.
Castro (27 years old) is 4-0 and has recorded 3.51 ERA in 30 relief appearances this season.
