Kingston Police have charged two youths, 14 and 13, after a person was assaulted twice on a Kingston Transit bus in January. Police are saying the assaults were hate-motivated.
Police said in a news release that on Jan. 16, an adult man boarded a transit bus and sat near the back alone. The man was then approached by the two white youths who then started harassing him. Police said the 14-year-old made a racial slur and, “at the encouragement of the younger youth” started touching and slapping the man’s head.

Then on Jan. 30, the same man was on another transit but when the same two youths boarded. There was a confrontation then as the man left the bus, they overheard a threatening remark.
Kingston Police identified the two youths with the help of Kingston Transit, and on Thursday they were arrested.
The pair were charged with assault and harassment by threatening conduct. They were taken to police headquarters where they were later released with a future date in court.
