Dancing video with Tim Walz's face proven to be fake

In recent months a video showing a man in shiny western clothes dancing has been making rounds on social media. The clip features someone who looks like Tim Walz‚ Minnesotas Governor and Democratic vice-presidential candidate dancing to Beyoncés “TEXAS HOLD ʼEM“. However this video is not what it seems

The footage‚ which was shared on Facebook around 9/5/2024 has been digitally changed. The original video shows dancer and drag artist Matthew Krumpe not Walz. Krumpe posted the un-edited version on Instagram about 8 months ago (on 2/19/2024) before Kamala Harris picked Walz as her running mate

The altered video shows a person wearing glasses with a face that looks like Walzʼs. Theyʼre dressed in a black crop-top black pants and a red cowboy hat. A screenshot from this video was posted about a week ago with a comment saying: “Sometimes when Im having a bad day I watch this video of Tim Walz dancing to Beyonce and my mood is lifted immediately“

Krumpe the real dancer in the video wrote on his Instagram post: “This aint Texas and if anyone walks into my shot again im quitting making content and jumping off this boat“. He hasnt responded to requests for comment

Reuters fact-checkers have looked into this video and confirmed its been changed. They also found another video of a person known as El Divo 956 that was changed to add Walzʼs face. This shows a pattern of fake videos being made of the vice-presidential candidate

In conclusion: the dancing video with Tim Walzʼs face is fake. Its an example of how easy it is to change videos and spread them on social media especially during election times
