Fatal Bus Hijacking in LA Sparks Transit Safety Concerns

In the early hours of September 25, 2024, Los Angeles experienced a tragic incident that has reignited concerns about public transit safety. An armed individual commandeered a Metro bus, resulting in a fatality and a prolonged police pursuit through downtown.

The event unfolded shortly before 1 a.m. when the suspect boarded a bus in South Los Angeles, joining the driver and two passengers. As law enforcement approached, the bus began moving, initiating a slow-speed chase that lasted approximately an hour. Deputy Chief Donald Graham commended the bus operator's composure, stating, "This operator continued to operate the bus in as safe a manner as he could under the circumstances, with the police trailing him for an hour before the spike strips finally took effect."
