FX's "Shogun" breaks Emmy record with 14 Creative Arts wins. "The Bear" secures 7 awards, while Jamie Lee Curtis and songwriters achieve EGOT milestones. Primetime Emmys set for September 15.
FX's political thriller "Shogun" has made history at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards, securing an unprecedented 14 trophies and surpassing a long-standing record. The series, set in feudal Japan, has eclipsed the previous benchmark of 13 wins held by the 2008 limited series "John Adams".
The Creative Arts Emmys, established in 1974, recognize technical and behind-the-scenes achievements in television production. This year's event took place on September 7-8, 2024, at the Peacock Theater in L.A. Live, Los Angeles. "Shogun", based on James Clavell's 1975 novel, garnered accolades for costumes, makeup, editing, and cinematography, among others.
Nestor Carbonell received the guest actor award for his portrayal of the Portuguese merchant Rodrigues in the series' inaugural episode, "Anjin". With 25 nominations, "Shogun" may secure additional honors at the Primetime Emmy Awards on September 15, 2024.
Hulu's culinary drama "The Bear" also made a significant impact, earning seven awards. Jamie Lee Curtis, daughter of Hollywood icons Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, won best guest actress in a comedy series for her role as Donna Berzatto in the Christmas-themed episode "Fishes". This victory puts Curtis halfway to achieving EGOT status, following her 2023 Oscar win for "Everything Everywhere All at Once".

Songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul became the 20th and 21st EGOT recipients, winning for their contribution to "Only Murders in the Building". Their previous accolades include an Oscar for "La La Land" and Grammy and Tony awards for "Dear Evan Hansen".
Other notable winners include Maya Rudolph, securing her sixth Emmy for voice-over work in Netflix's "Big Mouth", and Angela Bassett, earning her first Emmy for narration in National Geographic's "Queens".
The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, will air on September 15, 2024, potentially adding to the already impressive tally of this year's winners.
