Harris and Trump fight for Michigan's blue-collar vote

On 10/18/24‚ Kamala Harris and Donald Trump went to Michigan trying to get blue-collar voters. They talked about making jobs and helping unions.

Harris said Trump didnt help workers when he was president. She told people in Grand Rapids and Lansing‚ “No matter what the noise is out there‚ he is no friend of labor: Look at the record and lets not fall for the okie doke.“ Harris thinks Trump makes empty promises.

Trump said hes good for workers. In Hamtramck he said‚ “So many of them support me because Im going to bring back the auto jobs.“ He thinks lots of union members like him.

The United Auto Workers (UAW) likes Harris but Trump says many UAW people support him. The Teamsters union (they used to always support Democrats) didnt pick anyone this time.

Harris and Biden have helped unions more but Trump says he gets along with workers better. In Oakland County Trump said the Teamsters president is “a great guy.“

Both want to win states like Michigan Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. These places are really important for the election.

Harris is trying to do what Biden did in 2020 to win. Shes talking to Black men and Arab Americans too.

They have different ideas about making jobs. Harris likes the Inflation Reduction Act which gave money to companies in Michigan. Trump wants to make foreign things cost more so companies will make stuff in America.

They also made fun of each other. Harris said if Trump is tired now‚ he cant do the hard job of being president. Trump said Harris isnt smart and doesnt have energy.

Harris made fun of how Trump talks and said he doesnt really get what its like to work hard. Trump said Detroit is like a “developing nation“ which made Harris mad

Some people in Michigan like Harris ideas. Bonnie Norment‚ 63‚ said‚ “This is Michigan‚ and we understand all of our jobs are on the line Everything that I hear about what her policies are going to be thats the way forward“
