Kenya's president picks new deputy after impeachment vote

In a swift move‚ Kenyas president has put forward a new deputy after the previous one was kicked out. This happened on 10/18/24 just hours after the parliament said “no more“ to Rigathi Gachagua who was in the hospital at the time.

William Ruto the president chose Kithure Kindiki to step in. Kindiki was a big name during the elections about two years ago. Heʼs from the same area as Gachagua which is important for votes.

Gachagua is still in the hospital with bad chest pain his lawyer says is from stress. Heʼll probably try to fight back in court.

The parliament boss Moses Wetangula said‚ “I got a message from the president about Kindiki for the empty deputy spot.“ Now‚ the parliament needs to say yes or no to Kindiki.

People who like Gachagua are mad. They think everything happened too fast and he didnʼt get time to get better and speak up.

This whole thing shows thereʼs trouble in the ruling group. Ruto and Gachagua didnʼt agree on some big decisions. For example Gachagua didnʼt like when the government made people move during the bad rains we had not long ago.

When Gachagua talked to the parliament last week‚ he thought Ruto was okay with him being kicked out. He told everyone to decide without feeling pushed around. Ruto hasnʼt said anything about it in public.

Ruto who said he was for the poor people when he got the job has been having a hard time. People donʼt like that heʼs trying to make them pay more taxes to pay back money Kenya owes. But when people got really mad‚ he changed some of his plans and switched some people in his team
