In a recent weather-related incident, a landslide struck the town of San Felice a Cancello, located approximately 30 kilometers northeast of Naples in Italy's Caserta province. The event, triggered by intense rainfall on August 27, 2024, has left two individuals unaccounted for and prompted local authorities to initiate evacuation procedures.
Emilio Nuzzo, the local mayor, expressed concern about the fate of the missing persons - a woman in her seventies and her son in his forties. The pair were traveling in a three-wheeled vehicle when the landslide occurred. Emergency responders discovered the damaged vehicle amidst the debris, raising fears about the occupants' well-being.
"We hope that they jumped out ... and may still be alive somewhere, but from what the experts tell me, there isn't a lot of hope."
The Italian Fire Brigade, known as Vigili del Fuoco, has deployed ten search teams to locate the missing individuals. These efforts are part of a broader emergency response, which includes evacuating residents from affected areas to ensure public safety.
