North Korea changes constitution: South Korea now labeled "hostile state"

North Korea has made a big change to its rules. The country now says South Korea is not a friend‚ but a “hostile state“ This is the first time North Korea has said this in its main law book (called a constitution)

Last week North Koreas parliament met for two days to change these rules. At first‚ they didnt say much about what they did. But now we know more

Kim Jong Un the leader of North Korea‚ said in Jan that he wanted to change how they talk about South Korea. He wanted to:

  • Call South Korea the main enemy
  • Stop saying they want to join with South Korea peacefully
  • Change how they describe North Koreas land and power

The news came out when North Korea talked about breaking down old roads and train tracks that used to connect North and South Korea. They said the new rules “clearly define“ South Korea as not friendly

North Korea didnt say much else about the changes. But its clear they dont want to be friends with South Korea anymore

This is a big change in how North Korea sees South Korea. It means they might not try to get along or work together anymore. Its a sad day for people who hoped the two countries could be friends again someday
