Zelenskiy unveils plan to end Russia conflict by 2025

Volodymyr Zelenskiy Ukraines president‚ has put forward a five-point “victory plan“ thats designed to bring the conflict with Russia to an end by 2025. The plan which was presented to parliament on 10/16/24‚ calls for quick action from Ukraineʼs allies to strengthen Kyivʼs position at a difficult time.

The plans main points rely heavily on support from allies including an immediate invitation to join NATO and increased weapons assistance. In exchange Zelenskiy proposed that Ukrainian troops could boost NATO security and potentially replace some U.S. forces in Europe.

“We must change the circumstances so that the war ends. Regardless of what Putin wants we must all change the circumstances so that Russia is forced to peace‚“ Zelenskiy told lawmakers and top officials

The plan also suggests establishing a “comprehensive non-nuclear strategic deterrence package“ within Ukraine to protect against Russian threats and weaken its military power. Zelenskiy mentioned an additional secret addendum that he couldnt disclose.

Furthermore‚ the plan envisions Western involvement in investing in and jointly protecting Ukraineʼs natural mineral resources from Russian attacks‚ as well as post-war reconstruction commitments.

Zelenskiy acknowledged that some allies view the wars end differently: “We hear the word negotiations from partners and the word justice much less often. Ukraine is open to diplomacy‚ but honest (diplomacy)“

The plan faces challenges‚ including:

  • Russian forces advancing in the east
  • A harsh winter with power cuts looming
  • Ukraineʼs military being outnumbered
  • Uncertainty surrounding U.S. leadership changes

The Kremlin responded by saying it was too early to comment in detail‚ but that Kyiv needed to “sober up“ and realize the futility of its policies.

Zelenskiy emphasized the importance of unity among Ukraineʼs partners and reiterated his request for Western backing to conduct longer-range strikes into Russia. He also stressed the need for a “clear list of weapons“ and air defenses.

If we start moving on this victory plan now‚ we may be able to end the war by next year at the latest

Zelenskiy stated

The plan received mixed reactions from lawmakers. Some like Oleksii Honcharenko‚ criticized it as “very unrealistic‚“ saying‚ “We put almost everything on our partners. And what demands do we make of ourselves?“ Others‚ like Roman Lozynskyi from Zelenskiyʼs party‚ acknowledged that while it seemed “fantastical‚“ past requests that once seemed unrealistic had yielded results.

Zelenskiy concluded his speech by urging Ukrainians to remain united: “We achieved and are achieving results in battles thanks to our unity. Therefore‚ please do not lose unity“

The president plans to present his plan to European Union leaders at a summit in Brussels on 10/17/24‚ following his recent meetings with leaders from the United States‚ Britain‚ France‚ Italy‚ and Germany
