Will ‘Betty Butter’ be Mayorkun’s next big hit? Fans seem to think so

Earlier this week, DMW star singer, Mayorkun teased fans with a new single, the first from his new era and his sophomore album that hinted a feature from label boss, Davido. There was understandable excitement around this new because the Mayor of Lagos’s last full album was his debut, released in 2018. The fact that his ‘Geng’ freestyle, released this January became a bonafide hit, is an expression of how hard the Mayorkun fans ride for him. The Mayor has delivered with ‘Betty Butter’, his first major single of 2020.

Mayorkun understands the power of a good first single to the success of a project, this is why he came through with the big guns. Davido comes out of his self imposed retirement to feature on Betty Butter, bringing his megawatt star power to the song. Not leaving anything to chance, Mayorkun also released a music video along with the single, and tapped current Instagram it-girl, OnyiiBekeh to feature as the video’s predominant love interest, sharing her attention between Davido and Mayorkun who play rivals in the video. Texting, backstabbing, one-upmanship, the video has everything and a sprinkle of extraness.

Betty Butter is proof Mayorkun is not here to play with anyone in this music business. Fans, in reaction to the song, applauded the singer as they praised him for giving them something after his earlier freestyle, Geng, which the singer also tapped into his latest boop.

Here are some reactions following the release of the song…
