The Minister of State for Environment, Dr Iziaq Salako, and his counterpart for the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof Joseph Utsev, on Wednesday, declared President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to finding lasting solutions to the flooding challenge in the country.

The ministers said this when they visited Ogun State for an on-the-spot assessment of the flooded Isheri community in the Ifo Local Government Area of the state.

They assured residents of Isheri community that the Federal Government would leave no stone unturned to solve the perennial flooding problem in the area.

Speaking during the visit, the environment minister said, “The President is aware of this problem, he fully understands where the problem is and he has been very proactive in addressing the problem. I am aware that the problem is topmost in the heart of the state governor. I believe that we will find a permanent solution to the problem.

“We should understand what we need to do with Ogun River, the dams; how do we ensure that we expand our drainage and lift our roads and our people to change their habits and be more environmentally responsible.”

On his part, Utsev said, “A team already sent to assess the flooding situation in Isheri have gone round and have observed salient challenges. We are providing solution to flooding in the entire Nigeria , not only in Ogun. We are believing that the solution has come.”

Responding, Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the formulation of drainage master plan as a major initiative to address longstanding drainage issues in the area.

He appreciated the President for responding swiftly to the state’s call for help.
