ROCK OUT ON FRIDAY 

You may know South African rock metal band The Narrow, from its chart-topping singles Lonely-Lonely and You don’t get to quit, as well as headlining festivals across SA from Oppikoppi and Ramfest to Splashy Fen This Friday, you can rock out with them at the lively Armchair Theatre. Start with a drink around the fire pit outside or a game of pool inside, then move into the lower bar area to enjoy the concert.

JOIN A SUNSET & FULL-MOON HIKE 

Get an active start to the weekend and join the monthly sunset and full-moon hike on Karbonkelberg Peak/The Sentinel. Meet fellow hikers at Fish on The Rocks’ car park, in Hout Bay, and learn more about the heritage and culture of the area. Be sure to pack a head lamp, warm jacket, water and snack pack (sandwich, trail mix, nuts, biltong, energy jellies).

THROW IT BACK TO THE ‘80S 

Party on Friday with The Deadbeats, an ‘80s cover band with roots in the rock and alternative scene, featuring hit songs from Billy Idol, Blondie, David Bowie, Duran Duran, The Police and others. The party’s at Havana Night, where the cocktails and bubbly flow, and there is a strict dress code - smart, dress to impress. Ticket price includes a donation to the Toy Run Charity.

STOP BY A CRAFT MARKET ON SATURDAY

The Rondebosch Park Market focuses on hand-crafted items and is family- and pet-friendly. Set under shady trees, you can shop for handmade goods, plants, preserves, artisanal coffee and other products at this chilled event.  It's Women's Day next week, and there's something on almost every night – plenty of opportunity to treat yourself and your ladies to some fun. PLAY AT A WINTER WONDERLAND

Make the most of winter at Snow World at Waterworld Strand. This snow park offers combinations of snow and ice activities for all ages, from ice slides, a snow play area, snow ramps and there are even animals from the Ice Age. Note: Dress for snow. It will get chilly.

Pop into this market, where you will be greeted by Dunkin, Dixie and Daisy, the resident donkeys. The Purple Windmill has views of wine vineyards and entertainment for everyone, from live music, stalls, craft beers, cocktails, hotdogs and a play park for kids. POP IN TO THIS FUNKY ART GALLERY IN SEA POINT

VISIT A FLEA MARKET THIS SUNDAY 

The Muizenberg Flea Market has been in existence for the last 34 years. It has over 300 stalls that sell everything from Cape Malay food and mielies in a cup to underwear and brass decor. And best part of all, you always leave with a bargain when you visit this Sunday market.

HIKE TO A MYSTICAL WATERFALL

Unwind by hiking to a waterfall in Cecilia Forest. There are many routes to get there: Cecilia car park, Newlands Forest, Constantia Nek and Kirstenbosch Gardens. The routes differ in duration and difficulty, but all lead to the breathtaking water gushing over hanging ferns and green mosses. All the routes are pet friendly and most of them are free! The Long March to Freedom exhibition in Century City is the largest exhibition of its kind anywhere in the world. It’s a sculpture garden of 100 life-sized, bronze statues that depict South African and international liberation and human-rights icons, and tells the story of South Africa’s 350-year struggle for freedom and democracy.
