DStv Premiership goal drought: Week 1 makes unwanted history!

The eight opening weekend matches in the 2022/23 DStv Premiership produced just 10 goals – the fewest in the 27-year history of the PSL.

The previous ‘record’ was 11 which was achieved in four occasions.

Goals have sadly become a scarcity in the top-flight in Mzansi in recent years with last season producing the fewest ever.

In fact, as reported exclusively by The South African website, Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile scored more goals than SEVEN teams managed in total in the 2021/22 season.

Shortage.

In Week 1, eight of the 16 teams failed to score, while six scored once. Only Mamelodi Sundowns (ominously) and newcomers Richards Bay scored twice each.

Here’s hoping that strikers find the back of the net more often in the midweek matches this week.
