A minibus taxi and Rea Vaya bus were involved in a nasty collision in Johannesburg on Tuesday, 24 May. Traffic camera footage of the crash shows that the smaller vehicle ran through a red robot.
TAXI, BUS ACCIDENT CAUGHT ON CAMERA
The bus was travelling along Miriam Makeba Street while the taxi was heading towards it on Marshall Street.
In a video clip of the crash, the minibus taxi driver can be seen skipping the red traffic light just as the bus passes through the intersection of the two streets.
Fortunately, neither vehicle was carrying passengers. Both drivers, however, were taken to a hospital for medical treatment of the injuries sustained in the accident.
According to an IOL report, Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) members helped the bus driver exit his vehicle.
It is unclear whether criminal charges have been brought against the taxi driver for allegedly causing the accident.
