Early this summer Christopher Shell from Carnegie Endowment wrote a smart piece about Black Americans views on foreign-policy (which turned out to be right on-point). His research showed that around 2/3 of Black Americans wanted to put limits on Israel aid and supported cease-fire – a position that many church leaders took back in winter 24
When Kamala Harris gave her speech in Selma AL this spring she tried to show a different view than Biden; however in following months they stayed on same page which made Arab-American Democrats upset (they didnt even get to speak at Chicago convention)
The Black communitys concerns about Gaza come from years of worries about U.S global power and its bad effects on Black people – from too many Black soldiers in military to spending money on war instead of local needs
In a recent talk Shell shared more thoughts: Black voters support Harris better than they did Biden before he left race in summer – but its still lower than 2020 numbers. He thinks U.S military actions and mixed messages about Israel-Palestine under Biden-Harris team made Black voters less excited
- Black Americans want changes in foreign-policy
- Church leaders pushed for peace talks early on
- Arab-American Democrats felt left out
- Current polls show less support than 2024 election numbers
